Traffic Court Records in Cabell County
Where a ticket goes depends on which law it cites. Cabell Magistrate Court handles most citations written under West Virginia code. Clerk Julie G. Callicoat keeps those case records in Room B-113 of the Cabell County Courthouse. The public can search case information through MCRSearch. City ordinance tickets are different. They belong to the municipal court printed on the citation. A Huntington, Barboursville, or Milton ticket follows that city. The three cities run no shared municipal docket portal.
A traffic court record here can hold plenty of detail. Expect basic case information, the charge with its statute, the plea, and the disposition. Docket entries and the parties appear too. A case event schedule also shows up. That schedule may list an initial appearance, a court hearing, or a bench trial. Serious matters and appeals can later surface in Circuit Court through WVPASS. Even so, the Circuit case never replaces the original Magistrate or municipal file.
Cabell Citation Court Compass
Look first at the court named on the citation. That line routes the whole search. "Magistrate Court of Cabell County" points to MCRSearch, the Magistrate Clerk, and the state payment service when a ticket qualifies. A reference to Huntington, Barboursville, or Milton Municipal Court points to that city instead. A Circuit Court case number is different. It usually signals an appeal or a matter that moved beyond the lower court.
Quick answer: Do not assume a city ticket appears in MCRSearch. Match the court name and case identifier before searching or paying.
How to Look Up a Cabell County Traffic Ticket
The free Magistrate Case Record Search covers any Cabell County Magistrate ticket. Accept the disclaimer, then search by first name, last name, or case number. The Magistrate payment search is a different animal. It demands an exact Citation ID, Case ID, or Payment Plan ID. This is a payment route. It is no stand-in for the docket.
- Read the citation and identify the court, county, and exact ID before opening a portal.
- For Magistrate Court, search MCRSearch by case number or by first and last name.
- Use the payment portal only when the case is eligible and its exact ID matches.
- If no result appears, call 304-526-8642 or 304-526-8644, or visit Room B-113 at 750 Fifth Avenue.
- For a city citation, contact the named municipal court and ask which identifier its clerk accepts.
Cabell Payment Search Fields
This payment form is strict. A near-match on a name will not do; the system wants an exact identifier. Separate fields for the citation, the court case, and the payment plan help keep a payment from landing on the wrong Cabell County traffic matter.
| Field | Use | Format note |
|---|---|---|
| Citation ID Number | Ticket identifier | Exact numeric ID |
| Citation County | Narrows citation | Select Cabell when applicable |
| Case ID Number | Magistrate case | ##-M##X-##### |
| Payment Plan ID | Existing plan | MC##-##### |
The official search screen lays these options out side by side. Seeing them separated makes obvious why a citation ID should never be guessed from a name or a date.

One more thing stands out on the form. This service hunts payment identifiers, not every field in the underlying docket.
Finding Your Traffic Court Date
The date certain printed on a Cabell County citation comes first. MCRSearch may then show an appearance date. It also lists rows under CASE EVENT SCHEDULE. Read those rows in time order. A "Reason Closed" value can end one event. The traffic case still lives on. A later reset or continuance can also replace an older setting. When a date stays unclear, call the court that owns the record.
| Case Number | Cabell sample pattern 25-M06M-04949; formats vary. |
|---|---|
| Court | Magistrate Court of Cabell County or the named municipal court. |
| Date & Time | The next open event, checked against the latest notice or order. |
| Courtroom | Room field, such as Magistrate Courtroom 1, when populated. |
| Status | Event status is not always the final case disposition. |
Cabell Event Schedule Terms
Short labels fill the Cabell County Magistrate screen. Their meaning comes from the event row and the newest docket entry, never from the label alone.
- Initial appearance
- The first court appearance and charge advisement.
- Court hearing
- A broad label whose subject should be checked in the notice or entry.
- Bench trial
- A trial decided by a magistrate without a jury.
- Continuance
- An order moving a setting to a later date.
The Magistrate case-detail interface displays these fields in a case event schedule.

The field view has its own advantage. It separates the hearing history from the charge result while keeping private party details out of sight.
Paying or Contesting a Cabell County Ticket
In West Virginia, paying assessed citation fines and costs counts as a no-contest plea. It is not a placeholder on the docket. A not-guilty plea travels by mail or in person under Magistrate Criminal Procedure Rule 7(c). The court then sets the matter for further process. Some listed offenses demand an in-person plea. The citation and the court's own instructions control.
| Paying the Ticket | Contesting the Ticket |
|---|---|
| No-contest plea and case disposition may result. | Not-guilty plea leads to a hearing or trial setting. |
| Respond by the date certain on the citation. | File the response by the citation deadline. |
| Eligible cases may use MFP, phone, or the court. | Submit in person or by mail where Rule 7 permits. |
Missed Cabell Court Date: A failure to appear can lead to prosecutor notice, a capias, and notice to DMV under the governing rules. Contact the issuing court at once rather than guessing from an old online row.
Cabell Failure-to-Appear Chain
Rule 7(e) tells the Magistrate Clerk to alert the prosecutor when a citation goes unanswered. Covered motor-vehicle charges can also trigger notice to DMV. Miss a criminal hearing or trial after proper notice, and West Virginia Code section 50-5-15 lets a magistrate issue a capias. A capias is court process that compels appearance. None of this fixes itself online. The smart move is calling the Cabell County court that issued the citation. Ask for the current case status and the next required act. Ask whether a new order has been entered. The payment portal cannot cancel a capias or interpret an order.
Court Traffic Record vs Driver Record
Two agencies, two files. The Cabell County court record covers the citation case itself. It holds the charge, the plea, the event schedule, the disposition, the costs, and any court orders. The West Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles keeps a separate driver file. Use the court search to understand the case. Its settings show up there. Just do not expect it to hand you the DMV record.
| Court Traffic Record | Driver Record | |
|---|---|---|
| Kept By | Magistrate Clerk or municipal court | West Virginia DMV |
| Shows | Citation, plea, hearing, result, costs | License status, points, reported convictions |
| How to Get It | MCRSearch or court record request | DMV record-request process |
Cabell Municipal Ticket Routes
Huntington Municipal Court keeps its clerk inside City Hall at 800 Fifth Avenue. The clerk answers at 304-696-4470. Barboursville lists its official number as 304-736-8994. Milton Municipal Court sits at 1139 Smith Street, and the city answers at 304-743-3032. There is no single search form covering all three municipal courts. Each Cabell County ticket follows its own route.
When you call, ask what identifier the clerk accepts for a docket lookup, whether you can view the file at the counter, and how to order a docket sheet or certified copy. The Huntington court docket page breaks out that city's path, and other city pages keep the municipal and state routes separate.
Fees and Copies
The Magistrate service charges $2 extra for online payment. That is a WV.gov charge, added on top of whatever the court assessed. The service sells no copies. For Magistrate case documents, MCRSearch sends you to the local clerk. The Cabell County clerk posts no current copy or certification fees. On the Circuit side, an appeal copy runs $1 per page. That rate comes from West Virginia Code section 59-1-11.
| Item | Fee | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| MFP online payment charge | $2 | Added per payment, separate from the fine and costs. |
| Magistrate copy or certification | Confirm with clerk | No current local amount was located. |
| Circuit paper copy after appeal | $1 per page | Statutory Circuit Clerk copy rate. |
Cabell Payment Screen Warning
The official payment notice lists the service charge apart from the assessed case debt. It also states you need an exact ID to proceed.

That split matters. A portal fee is not the total fine, does not decide eligibility, and never substitutes for the Cabell County traffic docket itself.
Cabell Citation Verification
Check every detail against the paper ticket first. Match the citation number, court name, charge, response date, and case status. A portal match helps, nothing more. The issuing court or clerk still confirms the controlling deadline. It also confirms whether online payment is open. Save the receipt and any later order with your citation record. A payment screen alone never shows the full disposition.
